Dream Log #2 ~Through the Jungle Nightmare

Another snake one I’m afraid! I’m not and never was actually scared of snakes, funnily enough, but I did used to have recurring nightmares involving them. I’m terrified of spiders but NEVER have had nightmares about them!

Jungle Nightmare:

I am with my family in the jungle (don’t ask me what we were doing there!), when there’s a crescendo of hissing sounds. There’s a whole loads of snakes, mostly black ones, making their way towards us. Slowly, they slither forward. We back away and then break into a run. We know the Jeep isn’t too far away so if we get there, we’ll be safe. My brother is the youngest and he starts to fall behind. Suddenly, he trips over a root. One of the faster snakes gets to him and he’s crawling backwards away from it as fast as he can.

He’s not fast enough. I run back to help him up but it’s too late – the snake lunges and bites him on the ankle. I get there in time to whack the snake away and pull him to his feet. He cries out in pain as we collectively hobble away from the approaching snake hoard. The bite looks red and swollen. Instinctively, I know if I don’t get to the Jeep in time and deal with the bite soon, he will die. I pull him along, not caring about the pain it’s causing him because if the snakes catch up, it will be a much worse fate. We catch up with my parents and we’re at the Jeep. We get inside shut the doors and windows and seal any holes. While my parents were trying to start the car, I tie some cloth around my brother’s calf. In the background, the hissing is incredibly loud. There are things moving, slithering onthe metal of the car. Out the corner of my eye, I see black shapes dart across the windows. I turn my attention to my brother to try to suck the poison out, like I’ve seen in movies and it works somehow instantly. The swelling reduces and he’s in less pain. I hear more hissing but it’s strange, it doesn’t sound like a snake. Spitting out the poison, I notice my parents have started up the car. We were getting out of this hell hole!! My dad tries to drive forward and accelerate but the Jeep stays motionless. With building dread, I realise the snakes are intelligent and have punctured our tyres with their fangs. We have no option but to make a run for it out through the snakes swarming around the car.

Steeling ourselves, we get ready to open the doors. I open my door along with everyone else and am instantly met with stinging, excruciating pain everywhere. And I wake up.

Thanks for reading this nightmare! They’re extremely vivid aren’t they? I actually had this as a recurring nightmare when I was only about 10 years old. It would recur almost every week. The next one I post will also be a nightmare from when I was around that age. Although that one will be the one that I had the most often – sometimes every night. It’s wonder I didn’t grow up scared of snakes!

Dream Log #1 ~ The Massive Snake Nightmare

Along with my random thoughts, I thought I would start up a log of nightmares I have and have had. Some of these will be from when I was younger but they stuck in my mind VERY vividly. I will put a DISTURBING tag if it ever has some truuly horrible things in it. Also, this is a long one. Not all of them will be as long as this. Some might only be a sentence or two.

Just to tell you, I usually get extremely vivid dreams and nightmares. Because these dreams and nightmares are so detailed, I feel like they’re worth writing up.

MASSIVE SNAKE NIGHTMARE:

I was in my house. Everyone was sleeping. I went downstairs in the dark without switching on the light. I entered the front room that looks out to the driveway and the road. Everything was dark but still visible because of the yellow street lamps. I heard some sound that sounded like someone was dragging something massive along concrete. IT was kind of scrapy sounding too. My family’s front drive has tall cone shaped evergreens on the left that act like a 3m wall so you can’t see you neighbours. The sound was coming from that direction. Finally, the source of the noise (which was getting louder) appeared. It was a giant snake – it’s head was as big as a small car. Slowly, it emerged from behind the line of trees sliding along the pavement where pedestrians normally walk. I ducked immediately. Somehow, I felt that if it saw me, it would come this way. I slowly peeked over the windowsill and managed to get a glimpse of the base of the snake. It had a writhing mass of smaller snakes of various sizes following it and slithering alongside the big snake. While I was looking at that, I didn’t notice that the snake had turned. Towards the house. When I looked back at the head, it was almost at the window I was peeking through. I ran back upstairs in terror trying to wake everyone (my parents and brother) but they wouldn’t wake.

I could hear a muffled kind of thudding sound now coming from downstairs. Somehow, I knew this was the big snake trying to get in the house. Since no one was waking, I had the brilliant idea of trying to build a barricade before the snake got through. Obviously, because it was a dream, I magically managed to build a brick wall blocking the stairs off so nothing could get from the downstairs to upstairs.

Finally, my parents woke up and asked me what was going on. I told them. They woke up my brother and we all tried to think of ways to get out. The thudding had stopped by now. Maybe it was over, my dream self thought. Suddenly masses of black snakes starting pouring out from the brick wall’s sides. I managed to quickly open the loft and we all went up the ladder as quickly as possible and shut it behind us. We thought, let’s escape from the roof window! I went to open it and we all climbed onto the roof. All around us everything was gone. There were no trees, no houses no road visible. In their place was just a writhing mass of snakes. Of every colour and size. The neighbours’ houses? Gone. The trampoline the kids next door had that I was so jealous of? Gone also.

I felt tears run down my cheek. Meanwhile, the massive snake with a car sized head had somehow found its way into the attic. Just its head though. And its huge yellow eye looked up at me on the roof. It was taunting me. Laughing at me. I felt myself become reeeeally angry then. Like, how dare you cause a snake apocalypse!!! I still had the loft opening stick in my hand (its sole purpose, if you didn’t know, is to hit against the loft door on the ceiling to open it and hook out the ladder) and I jabbed the snake’s eye with it. It opened its enormous fanged mouth in pain and shook the roof. The tiles beneath my feet became loose and I lost my balance. Falling off the edge of the roof, I felt a rushing sensation as the wind blew past me. I could see the mass of snakes I was falling towards. I hit them. Then I woke up.

Ok boys and girls, I hope you enjoyed the show. More to come later!!!
